NORAM Engineering and Constructors successfully commissioned a new pilot plant facility located at the Electrosynthesis Company’s facilities in Buffalo, NY using NORAM’s proprietary NORSCAND® Electrolyser.
The pilot plant operations demonstrated the production of lithium hydroxide, a key ingredient in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, by means of an electrochemical conversion process developed by NORAM and its partners. The NORSCAND® Electrolyser is a joint development between Permascand AB of Sweden and NORAM. The electrochemical conversion of raw lithium salts into lithium hydroxide provides opportunities to produce lithium hydroxide without significant effluent emissions which is common in current industrially deployed refining facilities. NORAM is working with customers in North America to implement the NORSCAND® Electrolysis System for commercial production of lithium hydroxide to support the growing Electric Vehicle industry.
