NORAM Electrolysis Systems (NESI) is proud to announce that our CTO, Dr. Clive Breteron (Clive), has been inducted into UBC Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering’s Hall of Fame. Clive graduated with a Bachelor’s and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and carried on to become a Professor of Chemical Engineering at UBC. Clive joined NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd in the mid-1990’s.
Clive’s engineering career has spanned a wide diversity of chemical processes and industries, and his pursuit of innovation has been a major contributor to NORAM’s success globally. Clive has over ten patents to his name and numerous original contributions to knowledge in the fields of bromine and nitrogen trichloride removal in chlor-alkali technology, flow batteries, and electrochemical process technology. Clive has been central to establishing, initially an Electrochemical Division at NORAM, and then growing NESI into a globally recognized leader in industrialized electrochemical process technology.
This award acknowledges both Clive’s personal professional achievements but also his lasting contributions to engineering, society, and mentorship. While UBC’s loss was NORAM’s gain, it has always been clear that we can take the professor out of UBC, but we could never take the professor out of Clive. Clive has mentored many co-op students during his time here at NESI and NORAM, as well as a similar number of young engineers. In this area, he has supported academic and professional career development of numerous engineers, with impacts felt globally.
Please join NESI in congratulating Clive for this well deserved recognition from the University of British Columbia.
